Thank you for subscribing to the substack version of The Commonweal. We appreciate your support and readership and will be back in the New Year with more article reprints from older editions of our journal.
Recently our editor solicited articles from over a dozen socialist and left wing organisations in Aotearoa/New Zealand, asking for pieces that articulate something along the lines of “What is to be done?”. More generally, we are interestsed in hosting some correspondence among the socialist left in this country on the question of strategy - immediate, medium, and long term. We hope our fellows across the movement will take up the offer and look forward to publishing them early in 2025.
We would like to congratulate Sionainn Byrnes for taking up the mantle of hosting our monthly radioshow and podcast, The End of History, which recently marked its 50th episode. You can keep up to date, and listen to some older episodes, over on Spotify.
The regional affiliates of the Federation of Socialist Societies will be back next year, too, with our regular events.
Until then we leave you with the image above, illustrated by Walter Crane in 1897. Jacobin has a piece regarding Crane’s socialist convictions and how they related to his views on art.
